Building in Lawndale (BILd)

A LEGO® based educational enrichment program for 3rd grade boys in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago, IL.

BILd is a 10-week volunteer-facilitated educational and personal enrichment program for 3rd grade boys. BILd operates via the belief that structured activities with LEGO® elements, in an environment of supportive encouragement can reap numerous benefits for youth in developing life skills that are not necessarily part of regular school education.

Goals

The main target of BILd is 3rd grade boys and the program is designed to benefit them in the following ways:

• Learn increased self-regulation
• Experience long-Term Projects (delayed gratification)
• Participate in structured opportunities for creative play
• Build teamwork skills
• Boost self-confidence
• Get early exposure to design and engineering fields

Become a BILd Sponsor

BILd is a lean-operating, volunteer-run organization, but there are still expenses. Of course there is the purchase of typical classroom supplies. In addition, one of the unique aspects of the program is that, at its conclusion, students will receive the LEGOs they have been building with throughout the course.

Please consider becoming a BILd Sponsor at one of the following levels. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated.

Sponsor: $ 30

Participant Sponsor:  $ 65  Covers the full cost of supplies for one student for one course

Capital Sponsor:  $ 100+   BILd has a number of capital investments for which it is seeking assistance with including:

• Costs associated with acquiring 501c3 status.
• Purchase of "LEGO Education" classroom kits.
• Purchase of a digital measurement scale.

Accountability

All donors will have the option to receive email updates throughout the program and are also welcome to stop in and observe a session.  At the conclusion, all donors will receive a report detailing the outcome of the program and the disposition of all donated funds.

Please note that at this time, donations are not tax deductible. Donors at every level will be mentioned in future presentations concerning the BILd program
